meet the team

Hi! I am Alanna and these are the dogs that inspired RED DOG sports.

My journey working with animals began in 2008 when I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Diego State University and began working in zoological and wildlife rehab. I cared for flamingos, penguins, parrots, gators, raptors, and many other critters in between. It was a dream job! Eventually, I said goodbye to my exotic co-workers and took some time off to be with my family. While the time home was amazing, I desperately missed working with animals. To scratch the itch, I began diving into dog sports in 2017 and I haven’t looked back.

After sharing so much joy with my own dogs, I opened RED DOG training in 2021 with the goal of helping others find that same joy. While ribbons are really great and fun, it’s the relationship and trust that sports build that is the real prize at the end of the day.

RED DOG is so excited to be introducing Izzy Powell to the team!

Hey there! My name may be Izzy, but to my friends and acquaintances, I was designated as “the dog girl” and it has stuck for years! I started my journey with dogs when I was in middle school, through 4H and have expanded my love for dogs to not only my personal life, but my professional life as well. Not only do I train dogs, but I am also a professional pet photographer with Powell Creative! Dogs are literally my world and encompass so many avenues of my life. I have been lucky enough to learn under multiple world-class instructors and love continuing my knowledge and education with dogs. My Border Collie, Roscoe has taken me to AKC Rally Nationals and has won multiple awards throughout our career. Although he has done so many amazing things in the ring, the relationship we built when he was a reactive adolescent has been the foundation of how we problem solve to achieve our goals. Not only do I have a Border Collie, but part of my pack includes my Swedish Vallhund, Zest. She is a little spit fire and makes sure the fun is brought in everything we do. I truly believe that every dog has something to teach us, it just depends on if we are open to listening.
